`I see bad omens in what has begun’

A long period of time, especially the misrule of Hasina’s government, had made me disillusioned. After August 5th, I had hoped for a beautiful country, for good governance. There was no opportunity to do anything; I was watching the work of the interim government. All the inexperienced members were mainly working under the advice of various pressure groups. This is what happens when a government lacks its own identity. It's running without proper guidance and direction. I accepted that. But now, with what has started, I see ominous signs.
The first mistake was the lack of clear responsibility for the interim government. This should have been decided by the government itself. Although everyone agrees on Hasina's departure, there are undeniable differences on almost all other matters. So, announcing different responsibilities at different times on their advice is never healthy.
Is it wise to replace Hasina's development speech with reforms and push elections away?
With what has started now, undoubtedly, the issue of August 5th will soon become bitter. Those who are trying to resolve the roles of people involved will eventually become a joke to the public. But before that, it saddens me that the country will suffer.
If one thinks a little objectively, this people's uprising is not the achievement of any one person or group. Many uprisings in the world have started with an issue and ended with the fall of governments. I haven't heard that the vegetable sellers' union is claiming credit for the fall of Tunisia's government.
This crumbling Bengali nature will eventually diminish the credit of the students too.
I have always been in favor of punishing the killers of the people, and I will remain so. But I request everyone to be aware of the conspiracy that is trying to put the people face-to-face with the armed forces.
When the people of a country are put face-to-face with the security forces, the result is a fratricidal civil war. No conscious citizen can be part of this process. Only those intoxicated by the ten-year revolution can do such hasty things.
Today, Hasina will party in Delhi, enjoying watching all this.
Begum Zia has been ruthlessly evicted from her residence in the cantonment, which was filled with the memories of her husband. However, she never made the army her adversary. Begum Zia knew that she would not get justice in Hasina’s court. But still, she appeared in court day after day, month after month, and year after year. She accepted the court's verdict and served her prison sentence. She stayed in her home under the government’s conditions. But she never broke those conditions to make political statements. She did all of this solely to prevent the state from collapsing.
Our political differences must be resolved politically through mutual discussion among political parties. There is no other way.
An all-party meeting should be called immediately to form a national consensus on the future of the Awami League. The government's consensus commission can carry out this task. We should raise our collective voice on this issue.
